uh oh

Let's put it this way... I couldn't even think of a blog title.

I had the first two inerviews for a book I'm working on. Each one was two and a half hours long -- pretty intense. They're all kids (well, adults now) who were living in the projects with bad family situations. We have about 13 more people to interview.

Anyway, I can go into the details some other time, but here I am, mini-cassettes full of two people's lives and I'm daunted. I have to get over a long-standing fear I've had that I'm not the book-writing kind. The idea of thousands and thousands of words is quite intimidating for me. I'm more 500 words and done.

Would hypnosis help?

Hypnosis, feh.

Look at your book as 13+ feature articles that you're writing individually. When you're done, you can go back over them and find the overarching theme and tie it all together.

If you look at a book from the side, the thickness is daunting, if you look at it from the top, it's only one page at a time.

Profundity, I gots it.

I look at my book's chapters as short stories - same thing Heather, the profundress, said.

What a great project, April.

Thanks guys for the encouragement!
I'm off on a big trip on my in-laws' sailboat and I hope to get some stuff done while I'm away, though I'm not going to allow it to take away from my vacation.
I'll let you know how it develops!

Happy vacation!

Have you sold this book already? If not, you should read Michael Larson's book on writing book proposals--I forget the title. One of the things most agents say is write the proposal first, use that to sell the book. Of course you will need a couple sample chapters, sounds like you have that already.

Good luck!
